La IZOD IndyCar Series inicia este viernes (23) las actividades para la primera carrera de la temporada 2012 qué será en el callejero de St. Petersburg, en Florida, y será valida por la Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. 26 pilotos disputaran la primera fecha y el fichaje más importante de la pretemporada fue el del brasileño Rubens Barrichello, qué viene de correr en la Fórmula 1 y correrá en la categoría más rápida del mundo para el equipo qué es dirigido por Jimmy Vasser, el KV Racing Technology.
Todos los pilotos qué participarán de la primera carrera, en St. Petersburg, deben correr todas las carreras del año. Los novatos de este año serán Josef Newgarden (Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing), actual campeón de la Firestone Indy Lights, Katherine Legge (Lotus-Dragon Racing) y Simon Pagenaud (Schmidt Hamilton Motorsports).
