Este fin de semana se realizara la edición 39 del Gran Premio de Long Beach, que será la tercera fecha de la temporada 2013 de la categoría más rápida del mundo. Helio Castroneves (Penske Racing llega al famoso circuito callejero californiano como puntero del campeonato. La carrera es este domingo (21) a la tarde.
El circuito callejero de Long Beach, en California, es un clásico del automovilismo estadounidense y mundial. El “Mónaco yankee” tiene 1.968 millas o 3.167 kilómetros y cuenta con once curvas. El Gran Premio de Long Beach es el evento más importante de la ciudad y siempre hay tribunas llenas.
Mario Andretti (Newman/Haas Racing) ganó la primera carrera de la historia de la CART/Champ Car en Long Beach. Antes, de 1976 a 1983, corría la Fórmula 1. Al Unser, Jr. es el piloto con más victorias y tiene seis. En 2008, la CART/Champ Car corrió su última carrera de la historia en este circuito callejero.
En Indy Lights, la cosa va mejorando de a poco y en Long Beach se suma otro piloto y es el canadiense Matthew Di Leo (MDL Racing), que estará haciendo su debut.
