El «Mes de Mayo» ha evolucionado en la «Catedral del Automovilismo Estadounidense», ya que se corre dos veces en el Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Desde 2014, tanto la IndyCar Series como sus divisiones de desarrollo celebran competencias en el circuito mixto del «Brickyard», el cual fue utilizado por la Fórmula 1 y el MotoGP desde el arranque del milenio, y que inaugura las actividades del mes más importante del calendario.
Es uno de los trazados no ovales con mayor velocidad promedio en el campeonato, gracias a la famosa recta principal, junto con la recta trasera y al hecho de que hay bastantes curvas de alta y media velocidad.
